Rebrand FAQ

What happened to DIYHRT.Market?

On June 9th our domain registrar suspended the domain diyhrt.market citing terms of service violations. We’d long anticipated this might be happen and so it was neither a shock nor an emergency for us when it finally did.

Why the rebrand?

Our project of cataloging and stock tracking HRT providers actually predates the original hrt.cafe with some of our data going back to 2019. DIYHRT.Market was just a snappy memorable name we chose in 2022 to put it all public.

For a few years it worked well but as other projects have sprung up and down with various permutations of “hrt”, “trans” and “diy”, it’s become this sort of Judean People’s Front vs People’s Front of Judea problem.

The most memorable aspect of our site has been our mascot “Valerie”, so now that we’re forced to move it only makes sense to choose an actual name rather than cycle through variations like diyhrtmarket.net or something.

Is it still the same project?

Yup! Just a name change. Spread the word.

Was my data seized or exposed?

We use separate providers for every part of our infrastructure so this only affected the domain, the servers and our Tor service continued without interruption. Your data, for what little of what we store, was never in the hands of our domain provider.

Why did the Tor site still work?

Onion services on the tor network use their own decentralised system that doesn’t rely on domain names the way the open internet does.
